LIVING AT ONYX

The Onyx House is now accepting resident applications for the 2023-2024 school year. Contact us below to get started!

Onyx isn't just a house of worship...it is a home.
Since 1996, hundreds of young adults have filtered through the halls of Onyx and it continues to be a place where college-age people can pursue their relationships with Jesus, other students and the surrounding community. The Onyx House is not simply a Christian co-op, nor is it a hideaway. We are committed to growing together as we encourage and support each other in living lives that are involved and engaged in all the ways and places in which God has placed us. Living at the Onyx House is for college-age people who have a relationship with Jesus and have a passion to love people as Jesus did. Because the Onyx House is an extension of Eugene Faith Center, the house makes the church their family. There are other commitments to living in the house, such as house jobs, participating in Friday night services, and attending quarterly house meetings.
The Onyx House can accommodate up to 64 people. It is located right across the street from Hayward field and the University of Oregon campus. The house is divided into four floors. Men live on the second floor and women on the third. Recreation, living and dining rooms on the first floor and basement level, and a large, landscaped back yard serve to provide a relaxed, comfortable, family-style environment. Each weekday, the house chef prepares meals for lunch and dinner (dietary needs can be accommodated). The Onyx House family gathers nightly to eat dinner together. In addition, the cooking staff keeps a variety of food available so that individuals can prepare breakfast and weekend meals on their own. The Onyx House is ideal…a great place to live and to explore your spiritual life in an environment where it is safe to do so.
Rent for the 2023-2024 school year is $800/month (double occupancy room) & includes rent, meals, utilities, and free laundry facilities.
Summer 2023 occupancy is also available; summer rent is $400/month - meals are not included. Please contact us for more info.

VISITING WEEKENDs
The next visiting weekend is April 28-30, 2023.
We'd love to have you join us! Visiting Onyx in person can be a great way to get a sense if it would be a good fit for you or not. It is also a time when prospective residents can finish 3 of the 4 parts of the application. We typically hold Visiting Weekends 2-3 times a year for prospective students to experience living at the house for a couple of days. Please contact the admissions manager using the form below to sign up or to be notified of details when they are available. |
APPLICATION PROCESS
The admissions process has four parts. Send us a note in the contact box below to find out more or get the process started!
1) Attend a Friday night service at The Onyx House
2) Attend a Sunday morning service at Faith Center (online at www.faithcenter.org)
3) Participate in an interview with the House admissions manager
4) Submit a written application, available by contacting the admissions manager (admissions@faithcenter.org)
NOTE: The University of Oregon initiated a freshman live-on requirement effective Fall 2017. If you want to explore this possibility, we recommend that you talk the Onyx House admissions manager and your representative in the UO Housing Office about this process as soon as possible.
