Onyx isn't just a house of worship...it is a home.

Hundreds of young adults have filtered through the halls of Onyx and it continues to be a place where college-age people can pursue their relationships with Jesus, other students and the surrounding community. The Onyx House is not simply a Christian co-op, nor is it a hideaway. We strive to be a family, growing together as we encourage and support each other in living lives that are involved and engaged in all the varied contexts in which God has placed us. Living at the Onyx House is for college-age people who have a relationship with Jesus and have a passion to love people as Jesus did. Because the Onyx House is an extension of Eugene Faith Center, the house makes the church their family. We are one and the same. There are other commitments to living in the house, such as house jobs and attending “family gatherings.”

The Onyx House can accommodate up to 64 people. It is located right across the street from Hayward field and the University of Oregon campus. The house is divided into four floors. Men live on the second floor and women on the third. Recreation, living and dining rooms on the first floor and basement level, and a large, landscaped back yard serve to provide a relaxed, comfortable, family-style environment. Each weeknight, the house cook prepares a meal. The Onyx House family gathers to eat dinner together. In addition, the cooking staff keeps a variety of food available so that individuals can prepare breakfast, lunch and weekend meals on their own. The Onyx House is ideal…a great place to live and to explore your spiritual life in an environment where it is safe to do so.

VISITING WEEKENDs

Picture
Visiting Onyx in person can be a great way to get a sense if it would be a good fit for you or not. It is also a time when prospective residents can finish 3 of the 4 parts of the application.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are not currently hosting formal group visiting weekends. However, if you are interested in living at the Onyx House, we can schedule a personal tour of the house for you as well as a meeting with house leadership to help you decide whether living at Onyx is right for you.

APPLICATION PROCESS

The admissions process has four parts:

1) Attend a Friday night service at The Onyx House (N/A due to COVID-19)
2) Attend a Sunday morning service at Eugene Faith Center (online at eugenefaithcenter.org)
3) Participate in an interview with the House Admissions Advisor
4) Submit a written application

NOTE: The University of Oregon has initiated a freshman live-on requirement effective Fall 2017. There is a process in place whereby certain applicable individuals who wish to live at The Onyx House may apply for an exemption to this requirement based on their religious convictions. If you wish to explore this possibility, we recommend that you talk the Onyx House admissions manager and your representative in the UO Housing Office about this process as soon as possible. You can find out more about the freshman live-on requirement here.
